In 2005, after 31 years of teaching studio art on the college level I retired moved to Vermont where I continue to paint, draw and exhibit my work.

Regarding the Ink-on-paper work:
I have been making a series of ink drawings or ink paintings since early in 2002. My subject matter is most often a person or common object in black and white, isolated and presented on a larger-than-life scale.

My expectation is for the viewer to see and understand the image from afar, but also be drawn in for closer inspection to view on a purely abstract level, the surface texture of marks, ink splatters and drips, allowing the viewer to engage with the process of making

Regarding the Gouache color paintings:
I have no rigid bias toward Pure Abstraction or Representational Realism. Good art is god art. I find working abstractly and on a small scale to be a more introverted and introspective experience than working large in b&w. Unlike the drawings, the color work progresses without a clear goal in mind. More like a wandering journey than a march toward a certain objective.
